Woven Basket Virtual Class

In this class presented by Caroline, you will create a small woven fabric box using fabric strips and Peltex©. You will learn how to prepare the fabrics with Peltex© that can then be woven into a small box with a handle, suitable for use as an Easter or catch-all basket. You will learn tips for accurately cutting and preparing your Peltex© strips as well as your fabric strips. Learn how to audition and choose decorative stitches and apply them to the fabric strips as you to weave the fabric strips into a small box. There are several alternatives for finishing the box. You will learn ideas for embellishing the box to suit your creativity. This box is so versatile that it can also be used as a flower box, gift box, tissue box holder, housewarming gift holder, or catch-all for small items, etc.
Basic supplies needed for this class include the following.
- Sewing thread to coordinate or contrast with your fabrics. NOTE: We used 40 weight embroidery thread for our samples. Variegated thread also works well.
- 2 – 3 Full bobbins with coordinating or contrasting thread
- Hot glue gun and hot glue
- Ruler or tape measure
- Sharp pair of scissors or pinking shears
- Sewing Machine with an overcasting stitch or zig zag stitch
- Double-sided Peltex
- Fabric of your choice
- Optional: Fabric clips, embellishments for box
